Community by Henri Nouwen
“Community is a place marked by acceptance, intimacy, and vulnerability, where we can bear fruit in solidarity with others and be the body of Christ for the sake of the world.” This is how Stephen Lazarus describes community in his introduction to a series of articles and lectures by the godly Catholic priest, professor, and writer, Henri Nouwen.
Chapters titles include – Spiritual Formation and Community, Finding Solitude in Community, The Faces of Community, and The Broken World, The Broken Self, and Community. These chapter titles are just a sampling of the many attributes of community about which Nouwen writes.
Nouwen’s own life was marked by a growing understanding of the essential place community plays in the lives of those who seek to follow Jesus. In many ways, Community reflects who we are at Embrace Church. Our diversity and loving commitment to each other is a defining characteristic of our body of believers here in High Point, NC.
A great read for those who feel isolated, cut off and alone even in the churches they attend.
